I have been with BT since Openreach installation of FTTP two years ago. We had no option other than a two year contract with BT when full fibre was installed so went with the flow!
Using my own modem seemed a challenge for them, obviously they wanted to use their own! Overcame that hurdle so their unused modem sits unused in its box waiting to be returned when they ask for it!
My two years has been relatively trouble free with fairly stable speeds of around 140+Mbps, occasional drop outs but on the whole good. Have had no need to check out their customer service - until I found a new provider! I have been paying £38.25 per month (no TV, no calls!) for Full Fibre 100
I have found a new provider (who I used 6 years ago pre FTTP) and found a good deal, faster speed, saving more than £10 per month. They will contact BT and arrange transfer on the due date!
Telephone call from BT saying how sorry they are to lose a much valued customer asking why the change. Speed and reliability were not the issues, just the price. Amazingly a VERY good offer was made almost matching my new ISP! I indicated that if they had contacted me sooner then there might have been a deal. I said that I had tried calling BT a couple of weeks ago to try to sort out some kind of appealing new contract, but all lines busy!! Perhaps there should be a discrete retentions hot line!
Goodbye BT!
