There were a few challenges in the first day, with regular dropouts and server connectivity issues but these appear to have settled down, although that may be a result of getting a static IP configured (which costs an additional £5/month) and moving away from CGNAT.

The support team have been responsive so far, so can hopefully iron out any remaining issues.

The service is great value, especially when using a government voucher (GBVS) which provides free installation and brings the monthly price to just £20.

Speed is a mixed bag, a vast improvement over my existing VDSL connection (~55Mbps) but sadly seem to fall notably short of a full gigabit (overheads accounted for). Various speedtests seem to give slightly different numbers each time, but download tends to average around 600Mbps (450-750Mbps) on a wired CAT5e connection. Upload is stronger at around 750-900Mbps.

Latency holds a steady 10ms to 1.1.1.1, mostly impacted by geography and the laws of physics (I'm in the North East of England).

The supplied CPE is a Zyxel VMG8825-T50 connected to what looks like a Nokia G-010G-Q ONT. The connection uses IPoE so you can connect your own router should you wish and be online without needing much/any configuration. There is no IPv6 at present (despite what the website says), but is coming in the near future.

Before we were with orange and the service was acceptable. 4MB Download 0.3MB Upload. The only poor note was the ping which hung around the 80ms mark and as a gamer 80ms didn't cut it.

Not only did the switch to Xilo bring my Ping down to 25ms their ultimate customer support showed me a few tricks which has brought my broadband speed up to 7MB Download.

If you have any problems, a general query or just want to know if you can improve your speed at all Xilo will respond within 48 minutes and not the 48 hours most companies aim for.

Whatever your ISP I can guarentee Xilo will beat them for BT's IP Stream ADSL Max broadband and if C&W/Bulldog have LLU installed on your exchange you have access to the Pro (up to 24MB download) package.

All in all Xilo beat every ISP out there.
