I've spent many years with the big providers: Virgin, Talk Talk, Sky, with all the usual bollocks of special offers then price hikes. The service was generally fine, but customer service generally useless. But I'm tight so I could never quite bring myself to pay more for a proper ISP.
But I finally got sick of this nonsense as Sky kept putting the prices up, and decided to skip all the stupid Amazon voucher bribery and just get service from a decent company (and they are a B-corp which I do appreciate). We've just had FTTP fitted to our pavements (cityfibre) but there is an exclusive deal with Vodaphone who _still_ can't do IPv6 and thus just do not deserve any money in 2023. So I've got IDnet SOGEA VDSL2 for now.
IDnet were very responsive to tech queries beforehand. I decided to use my own kit (old openreach modem and old plusnet One router flashed to openWRT) rather than add yet another wasted router to the world. I very much like the fact that this is an option with IDnet.
I was a little apprehensive about how the switch would go from Sky ADSL to IDnet SOGEA VDSL2 if it didn't 'just work', but it did 'just work'. No engineer visit, no nothing. Very smooth.
I've wanted my own static IPv4 for about 20 years but it was always not available or too expensive, so it was great to have that included.
The service has been reliable, as advertisted, for 2 months so far.
