New BT customers that subscribe to one of the operators Option 1, 2 or 3 fixed line HOME broadband packages will receive the first 3 months service absolutely free. The promotion, which is valid until 4th September, comes on the back of BT's recent plans to upgrade the speed of its packages from a top advertised rate of 8Mbps to 20Mbps (
here).
The new promotion was revealed by
BroadbandChoices, though as yet BT's website makes no mention of it and is instead still running the usual '
first three months at half price' offer on its primary packages. We suspect that this will be changed before the end of today.
Separately BT has extended its free Mobile Broadband usage promotion until the end of August. Essentially customers who sign-up for an 18 month BT Total Broadband contract will receive 1GB of Mobile Broadband service usage per month for free, which is worth £180 for the duration of the contract. We note that this offer cannot be taken with the above promotion. We note that a one-off USB Modem (Dongle) charge of £49.99 still applies.
Finally BT's Internet TV (IPTV) service, BT Vision, has signed up the ESPN channel, which we assume is as a replacement for the failed Setanta (
original news). ESPN has bought the exclusive rights to 46 Live Barclays Premier League matches in the 2009/10 season and 23 matches a season from 2010-2013.
ESPN’s coverage of the Barclays Premier League on BT Vision kicks off on Saturday, August 15, with live and exclusive coverage of Everton v Arsenal, followed by the London derby, West Ham v Tottenham on Sunday, August 23.
Fans of Scottish football will be able to follow the action and drama from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with live and exclusive coverage of 30 games a season on ESPN. Every one of the 12 Scottish Premier League clubs will be featured.
In addition to ESPN's 30 exclusive live matches per season, BT Vision will give customers at least 28 exclusive on-demand Celtic or Rangers matches, which will be available at 10.00pm on the day of the match.
