Troubled Phorm (WebWise), the controversial service that works with UK broadband ISPs to monitor what websites you visit for use in targeted advertising campaigns, has lost its CTO Stratis Scleparis (
list of remaining executives) and removed the bizarre
Stophoulplay PR spin site (replaced with Phorm's FAQ page).
Scleparis had previously been BT Retail's CTO during the time of Phorm's secret 2006 and 2007 BT trials, which were conducted without customers consent and had some customers feeling as if their broadband connections had been infected with spyware. He has now resigned to pursue other interests.
Scleparis told The Register :
"I am proud of the contribution that I and my team have made in the development of Phorm's unique online content and advertising personalisation technologies. I wish the Company every success with its current market trials and the roll out to full deployment of its innovative service."
These days Phorm faces a difficult future after all three of its key UK ISP backers - Virgin Media , TalkTalk and BT - appeared to distance themselves from the prospect of adopting its system in July. The firm is expected to post results for the six months ended 30th June 2009 on Monday 21st September 2009.
UPDATE - 20th September 2009:Thanks to one of our readers (Marcus) for spotting that David Sawday, Phorm's Director of Corporate Communications, has also left the company.
