Business internet provider
Timico has announced that its new range of 'up to' 40Mbps Fibre-to-the-Cabinet ( FTTC ) based fibre optic broadband packages ('
Timico Fibre Broadband') will launch early next month. The service will also offer upload speeds of 'up to' 10Mbps.
FTTC is delivered to premises over a standard telephone line, like ADSL. Unlike ADSL it utilises special equipment installed in the nearest BT street cabinet, which is then connected back to the local telephone exchange using high speed fibre optic cables. This means that the broadband signal only has to travel a short distance and hence a much faster service is possible.
Trefor Davies, Chief Technology Officer of Timico, said:
"Unlike many service providers Timico only provides broadband to business customers. We are focused on delivering a high quality network that is reliable, resilient and built to cope with high demand. This means that our customers will always receive the best data speeds that their line can achieve without being constrained by the limitations of the service provider’s network.
We have already received a number of enquiries from the general public and existing customers asking when Fibre Broadband will be available, making us very excited about adding it to our product portfolio."
Timico anticipates that customers adopting the service will see speeds that range from 15-40Mbps, which is generally no different from any other FTTC adopting ISP. No price or package details have been released but the service will be available on the week commencing 10th May. Initial coverage remains extremely limited.
