BSkyB ( Sky Broadband ) has released its latest set of quarterly results to 31st March 2010, which reveals that they have maintained a steady level of +101,000 quarterly net broadband additions and are currently home to a total of 2,505,000 internet access customers.
Furthermore 1.9 million (19%) of BSkyB's subscribers now take all three of TV, broadband and telephony, up 39% on Q4 2009. That's a strong swing from the +1% growth in triple-play bundles seen between Q3 and Q4 of last year.
Jeremy Darroch, Chief Executive, said:
"We have seen a huge response to our decision to cut the upfront cost of high definition, with net additions of 428,000 - up 76% on the prior year. The number of customers taking all three of TV, broadband and telephony is up 39% year on year and, as customers reward us with more of their business, ARPU has surpassed £500 for the first time.
Today’s results show that our financial performance is accelerating as we move through our investment in broadband and HD. Our focus on delivering an outstanding service for customers positions us well for sustainable growth in shareholder returns."
Overall Sky added 101,000 broadband, 118,000 telephony and 168,000 line rental customers in the third quarter. Some 688,000 of its 2.5m broadband subscribers are now using its new fully unbundled ( LLU ) platform; the rest are still on its shared-LLU and BT-based system.
It's interesting to note that music rights holders, such as the BPI, often accuse ISPs of having large profits. In reality Sky has only just said that its "
broadband and telephony is now close to breakeven," following years of investment and subsidy.
Sky recently revealed a significant shift in their line-up of broadband services that will see all unbundled packages given up to 20Mbps download speeds a price cut on the popular Unlimited package to £7.50 per month (
