Hampshire County Council, Havant Borough Council and CommunityUK (CUK) have teamed up to launch a FREE Wi-Fi wireless broadband service for the Leigh Park, Havant area. Unlike other projects of a "
similar" nature in the UK, this one really does claim to offer FREE 24/7 access and has taken place without requiring hundreds of thousands of pounds of investment from Government at any level.
CUK will officially launch the service in Warren Park this month, following several weeks of heavy testing. The project itself runs off a supposedly "
self-sustaining" model and is claimed to be a pilot scheme for a wider UK roll-out. From here, the scheme will be rolling out RAPIDLY across all of Leigh Park, with completion expected in mid to late September.
The
CommunityUK Free Wireless Broadband project has put together a launch event for Friday July 18th at Warren Park Primary School in Leigh Park. Guest speakers, such as
David Willetts - Minister of State - (Universities and Science) Business, Innovation and Skills and
Valerie Thompson – Chief Exec of the e-Learning foundation, will be attending.
The service itself should work with any WiFi equipped device from laptops to Smartphone's. Users will merely need to search for the network from their device, connect to it and then signup via their website browser before being fully connected to the FREE for faster PAID wireless service. Those interested can
