BT has hinted that it might bid in Ofcom's late-2011 auctions of crucial 800MHz and 2.6GHz Mobile Broadband spectrum, although the UK telecoms giant admitted that it was "
low down on [its] list of likely things". The 800MHz radio spectrum band is currently used by old analogue Television (TV) signals, which are slowly being switched off.
BT's Chief Executive, Ian Livingston, told the Dow Jones:"We'll have a look, but again it's not high on the agenda. I would think it's low down on the list of likely things. Of course you'd want to have a look at the terms and conditions of these things."
BT admitted that it was currently more focused on cost cutting and investing £2.5bn in its future fixed line "
super-fast" FTTC and FTTP broadband ISP services. Older readers will recall that BT used to have its own BT Cellnet mobile service, which was later sold-off and became O2 UK.
