Consumer ISP PlusNet UK, which currently pledges that its "
broadband won't be beat on price", has issued a new update on the progress of its 'up to' 40Mbps
Fibre-to-the-Cabinet ( FTTC ) internet access technology trials.
The provider claims that its FTTC trialists (over 400 in all) are currently receiving an average download speed of approximately
30Mbps and that it now has room to take on more. Any interested customers are being encouraged to
join before 25th January (
here). This, we believe, is the date that their trial is expected to close for new registrations.
PlusNet's Adam Walker added:
"As a thank you to all of our existing trial customers and anyone that can get FTTC and registers their interest by 25th January (even if we haven’t replied to your ticket or booked the engineer appointment) they can stay on their existing product at the same price for FTTC as they would for ADSL for as long as they like."
It's worth pointing out that within a few months FTTC will be able to cover roughly 15-20% of the country, thus most customers will still not be able to receive it. PlusNet has also extended its faster fibre optic 110Mbps FTTP trial until
July 2011, which is perhaps reflective of BT's delay in rolling the service out.
