Most people have probably already seen the "
maps" of 3G ( Mobile Broadband ) coverage. You know the ones, where reception areas are frequently illustrated through liberal use of multi-coloured blobs that do little to reflect the actual service or reception quality.
Now a new UK start-up,
Deltenna, has launched the
WiBE (Wireless Broadband Enabler). The new device, which also acts as a Mobile Broadband USB Modem (Dongle) with the added ability to distribute the service out over a Wi-Fi link (i.e.
MiFi), claims to automatically identify the mobile cell with the fastest available download speed and then configures its
4 internal antennas to achieve the best possible speed.
According to Deltenna, the WiBE can receive signals where most dongles cannot and even claims to deliver significantly faster performance. ISPreview.co.uk has managed to get hold of an early production unit and promptly set out to test these claims. What we found was quite unexpected.
