Communications and networking provider Entanet UK, which sells wholesale voice and data products to ISPs, has completed a significant upgrade to its national network. The work has resulted in a
500% capacity increase at its London-Midland-North ring.
Entanet claims that it already operates at 10Gbps or better across London and at 10Gbps between London and its principal Birmingham, Stoke and Manchester locations. It has now
replaced eight 1Gbps wavelengths with four 10Gbps wavelengths between
London,
Nottingham,
Sheffield,
Leeds and
Manchester as part of its on-going strategy.
Steve Lalonde, Entanet’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), said:
"We’re seeing demand for higher capacity services increase in line with our forecasts and this latest phase is key to staying ahead of that demand. This is good news for channel partners serving SME, mid- and enterprise-market customers because it means they can even more confidently accommodate service demands and growth ambitions of those customers.
While the network is obviously good news for broadband resellers, its particular strength lies in supporting the creation of private wide area networks (IP VPNs). We’re seeing an impressive increase in resellers’ appetite for helping their customers implement mixed Ethernet and broadband based virtual networks."
Entanet first began a
multi-million pound investment programme in 2007, which included full adoption of BT's new
21st Century Network (21CN) platform. To complete the upgrade Entanet also had to work with one of its key infrastructure partners, Global Crossing (UK) Telecommunications Ltd.
