Britain's (UK) biggest property website (i.e. digital estate agent),
Rightmove, has reportedly teamed up with BT to
list the estimated broadband ISP speeds for 1 Million homes on its website. The data will form a new standard statistic for each home, much like listing the number of bedrooms or parking spaces.
A source close to the company told The Telegraph:"Broadband is becoming one of the most, if not the most, important considerations for prospective buyers. Many people fall in love with a home only to find out it can only get really slow internet. By listing broadband speed with all the other property details buyers will be able to weed out homes that don't have high-speed access."
The new data will also state whether or not a house is covered by BT's new 'up to' 40Mbps FTTC based
Infinity products. However
BT's database does have its limits and fails to include vital coverage information for cable giant Virgin Media UK. BT has refused to comment on the reports, although Rightmove itself have said that they, "
are not currently in any form of partnership with BT".
The Telegraph article also quotes our own recent and related survey, which found that half of respondents would
pay more for a house with faster broadband (
here). Annoyingly they don't include a link back to the site as we have done for them above.
