The Carphone Warehouse has today moved to take on the big boys by announcing the launch of its new "
unlimited internet" service for their Vodafone based
TalkMobile network.
So far the only other operators to offer an
all-you-can-eat style internet service have been Three (3) and Giffgaff, while others have been forced, due to an economic
mismatch between capacity and revenue, to scrap such deals in favour of stricter limits.
The monthly packages themselves start at just
£12 per month with unlimited internet, although that is on a 24-month contract. However, there is a vague
Fair Usage Policy (FUP) attached - assuming you can find it.
After 5 minutes of hunting around for the FUP we discovered that CPW could still "
suspend all or some of the Services" if customers were found to be making "
excessive" usage and "
causing problems for other users".
As usual no indication is given of what would constitute such heavy usage, although other packages do claim to have a limit of 1GB per month. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is already consulting upon how best to clamp down on similar ISP promotions.
