A new study from
ABI Research has discovered that T-Mobile in the UK and Indosat in Indonesia offer the
cheapest prices for Mobile Broadband access in the world.
ABI Research Associate, Lim Shiyang, said:
"The partial deregulation of the telecommunications sector in Asia has allowed for a market-based model of competition. Industry dynamics have changed as prices now depend on competition within countries, rather than pricing caps."
ABI Mobile Services Director, Neil Strother, added:
"Demand for mobile data has been soaring over the past few years. As such, unlimited data plans were seldom removed from the product offerings of many mobile operators, while at the same time tiered-pricing plans entered the market. This has created some uncertainty among subscribers."
The study points very specifically to T-Mobile's
Mobile Broadband Plus plan, which apparently offers "
unlimited data" for just £9.58 ($15.47) per month; Indosat also has a similar deal that's approximately £1.2 per month cheaper.
However, the study appears to be out of date as T-Mobile has since revamped their plans to impose tougher
Fair Usage Policy (FUP) restrictions (e.g. if you go above a set level of usage then your access becomes limited to email and web browsing).
