Broadband provider
Internet Central has warned its customers, and consumers in general, to be aware of a
fraudulent new scam email that pertains to be from BT. The message is of course a fake.
The email begins by claiming that BT "
were unable to process your most recent payment of bill", before requesting readers to click a link in order to "
update your billing information". Naturally those who click the link will be taken to a fake website and have their personal details stolen.
It's important to point out that fake phishing emails like this are quite common and can be especially dangerous when they appear to come from an operator that you already use. The best course of action is to never click any links in such messages and to instead contact your ISP directly to check whether or not the message is legitimate.
