The communications regulator, Ofcom UK, has today released its latest
Media Literacy in the Nations research into how adults and children in
Scotland,
Wales,
Northern Ireland and
England use their media. The study discovered that home internet users in England went
online for 10.5 hours per week, just below the UK average of 10.6 hours.
Meanwhile 77% of UK parents agreed that the benefits of the internet for their children outweigh any risks and 81% claimed to know enough about helping their kids stay safe online. Some 78% believed that their children had been educated about how to stay safe online while at School.
However 43% of children in Northern Ireland who use the internet at home say they mostly go online alone and around 23% even have internet access in their bedroom. These figures do not differ statistically from the overall UK picture.
