Wireless operator
BT Openzone has today teamed up with beer maker
Heineken and announced new plans to deploy a
FREE Wi-Fi Hotspot (wireless broadband internet access) service in
300 Pubs and Bars across the UK by the end of 2012.
The project will initially get underway with
100 locations in London and expand out to the rest at a later date. Customers who use the service will be greeted by a new
Heineken Hub, which will include content supplied by one of the country's newest newspapers, "
i", a sister paper to
The Independent.
Chris Bruce, CEO of BTOpenzone, said:
"Using Wi-Fi to deliver free and exclusive content, Heineken is engaging and exciting pub goers and will undoubtedly increase business. It’s an exciting time to be involved in hospitality marketing."
BT claims that its Wi-Fi access is already completely free to over 5 Million BT
Total Broadband ISP customers, plus users of iPads, iPhones, iTouch, Android, Samsung and Blackberry devices and Smartphones through other BT partnership agreements. O2 and other ISPs also offer BT based Wi-Fi access alongside their deals.
Separately BTOpenzone has also added Wi-Fi access at John Lennon Liverpool, Robin Hood, Doncaster, Sheffield and Teesside
regional airports. Over the past three months BT has managed to add over 200,000 new sites to its wireless Hotspot service and now has a total of 3 Million locations.
