The remote rural village and civil parish of
Burghill (
Herefordshire,
UK), which resides approximately 3km north of
Hereford, will be celebrating today after learning that a local fixed wireless ( Wi-Fi ) broadband ISP,
Allpay Broadband, would "
shortly be available" in their area.
Customers of the service can expect to receive broadband download speeds of between 2Mbps and 35Mbps, depending upon which package they pick. Prices start from £20 per month and come with an "
unlimited" usage allowance (Fair Usage Policy).
Allpay usually distributes its service by installing the necessary wireless kit at the top of a local church, which then beams the signal out to homes and businesses. The Churches then receive an
annual payment of £500 for allowing their premises to host the equipment (
original news).
The wireless ISP has also been busy expanding its coverage to include other isolated rural villages, with
Madley being one of their latest additions. The Golden Valley (
Staunton-on-Wye) villages of
Brilley,
The Bage and
Peterchurch are also being tested for future coverage.
