NOMAD Digital, a specialist provider of transport focused connectivity solutions, has teamed up with
Eurostar, which operates a high speed rail link between the UK and mainland Europe, to deploy a new
onboard wireless internet access ( Wi-Fi ) service for their passengers'.
The move is part of Eurostar's three-year
£700 million investment and upgrade of its existing fleet. As a result the new Wi-Fi connectivity should surface between 2013 and 2014, just as the new and refurbished trains begin to enter service.
Passengers will also be able to view and/or download multilingual pre-loaded entertainment and travel information (described as "
infotainment" by NOMAD) to their devices.
Nick Mercer, Commercial Director of Eurostar, said:
"We are very pleased to be working with NOMAD and are confident that their wifi and infotainment solutions will significantly enhance the onboard travel experience and deliver our customers a high quality broadband service.
Access to a high speed internet and quality infotainment is increasingly important to passengers and will ensure that whether they are travelling for business or leisure, they get the most out of their journey. In a world of on-rail competition providing the optimal digital experience will be key to our success."
The service promises a high speed broadband connection to the internet at all times throughout the journey and should keep Eurostar up to speed with similar developments by rival train operators.
