Mobile operator Vodafone UK has come
under fire from customers for the allegedly poor state of its Mobile Broadband (3G) service in central
Glasgow. The sporadic issue has apparently plagued many of those affected for roughly half a year and comes in stark contrast to the operators recent claim that its "
network is built for data".
Vodafone Statement
We understand the frustration of customers using 3G data in Glasgow as we know our network has seen some issues in that area. These aren't related to capacity bottlenecks or a lack of investment in the area but to some software quality issues, coupled with the need to attain planning permission to install additional sites.
We're investigating some issues connected more specifically to certain sites in the centre of Glasgow. It's our priority to sort this out and we hope to see further improvements very soon.
According to
The Register, some customers have been told to try a different mobile phone or switch to
2G because the latter is "
unaffected by this issue so you can still use your phone for its purpose (making calls)". Vodafone appears unaware that modern Smartphone's are built with 3G data services in mind, often more so than calls.
