The latest anecdotal monthly consumer broadband ISP speed testing results from
Broadband.co.uk, which covers the past month of November 2011, show a rise in the national
average UK internet download speed from 7.484Mbps in October to
7.935Mbps now (still below July 2011's record 8.313Mbps). Meanwhile the
average upload speed remained fairly stable at
1.261Mbps.
Cable operator Virgin Media continues to be the
fastest overall ISP with an impressive average download rate of
14.302Mbps (down from 15.180Mbps in October). It also continues to hold the top spot for upload speeds at a stable
2.449Mbps, although Eclipse Internet is beginning to threaten both positions.

Overall BT , Eclipse Internet and PlusNet have shown
big improvements since last month, with all gaining roughly a Mb in download speed thanks to their new generation of superfast broadband packages.
By contrast TalkTalk has only seen a small improvement, despite offering similar services, and AOL fell right back to its previous home at the bottom.
