The
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council (TWBC) is said to be mulling over a proposal that could result in a
FREE wireless internet access ( Wi-Fi ) service being deployed in the town centre and possibly further afield.
The
Mesh Tech network, if approved, would "
mesh" together a bunch of smaller Wi-Fi Hotspots in order to create a single area of general coverage.
Councillor, John Cunningham, said (Tunbridge Wells People):"I think any plan that can help people get on the internet is a good thing. It will be interesting to see the proposals in more detail and how it could allow more people on to the internet."
At this stage the proposal remains tightly under wraps and
discussions are said to be at an early stage, although a related council meeting to debate the possible implementation has already been set for Thursday next week. Some money from the Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) office could potentially be used to support the project.
