Rutland Telecom, a
Gigaclear company that works to bring superfast broadband into some of the UK's most isolated communities, has bid farewell to a major shareholder and its original founder,
David Lewis (Director).
Lewis, an often outspoken critic of BT and champion of bringing faster internet access into Rutland's many rural villages, has left to setup a new consultancy business - '
Broadband Consultancy Limited'. The new consultancy specialises in rural broadband solutions and will work closely with Rutland Telecom.
David Lewis said:
"I have had 10 enjoyable years running the company, from its foundation in 2001 through to its award-winning achievement in being the first in the UK to commercially deploy Fibre to the Cabinet which gave Lyddington village the fastest rural broadband service in the UK.
Following the capital investment by Gigaclear, I felt it was time for someone else to take the company to the next stage; someone with more experience of working in larger businesses. For three months I have worked alongside the new Managing Director, Christer Karlsson, helping with the transition but it is now time for me to step aside from day-to-day involvement with the company to allow me to focus on consultancy and other business interests.
I will remain actively involved in Rutland Telecom’s future success both as a consultant and shareholder. I wish all employees and stakeholders the very best during this exciting new stage of expansion of Rutland Telecom."
Rutland Telecom's New Managing Director, Christer Karlsson, said:
"We wish David every success with his new business. It is good news that we will continue to work alongside David to help communities realise their ambition of super-fast next generation broadband."
After a bit of digging we discovered that Christer Karlsson originally joined Gigaclear as a
Sales and Marketing Director. Karlsson apparently has experience of over 40 fibre networks from his native Sweden and around Europe, which should hopefully put Rutland Telecom in good hands for the future.
