Google and Apple recently began bringing cross-platform end-to-end encryption to Rich Communication Services (RCS), which is a data-only messaging service that’s intended to replace traditional SMS text messaging (you need a mobile internet / broadband connection for it to work). But it’s not yet fully available from all UK mobile operators.

Mobile and broadband provider Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has today confirmed to ISPreview that they’ve finally deployed and activated a new mobile mast to help fix the problems in the Pembrokeshire (Wales) seaside town of Tenby (here). Ofcom has today published their latest quarterly (Q4 2025) study of UK consumer telecoms and TV complaints, which finds that Vodafone attracted the most complaints from customers for fixed broadband services, while O2 came top of the naughty table for Mobile services and EE did the same for Pay TV.

A new study from Point Topic has examined the impact on infrastructure level competition from nexfibre’s £2bn move to acquire full fibre broadband operator Netomnia (here). The analyst suggests that consumers in overlapping areas could see reduced infrastructure-level competition and less aggressive pricing over time, which may impact the Competition and Markets Authority‘s (CMA) assessment of the deal.

Network operators Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) have today published their latest Q1 2026 results and revealed that their gigabit broadband network increased its UK coverage by just 6,400 premises in the quarter (down from 115.1k in Q4), while related consumer customers fell to a total of 5,446,100 (down by -5.6k in Q1 2026). VMO2’s total mobile base also fell to 46.44m.
