Scientists working at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics and the University of Padova have experimentally demonstrated, in a real-world setting, that it is possible to simultaneously transmit multiple independent radio channels, on the same frequency, via the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band. Crucially the potential now exists to “dramatically increase the capacity of any frequency band,” which would have massive implications for other wireless solutions.

An unspecified number of Sky Broadband (BSkyB) customers are currently being affected by “intermittent connection issues“. The problems, which typically manifest as slow speeds and high latency, are especially common during peak periods.

The success forms a vital part of the operators existing plan to invest up to £500 million into the deployment of ultrafast broadband services for local authorities, 50,000 businesses and 1 Million homes in the UK (original news).
