Business ISP Fluidata, which earlier this year warned of the potential danger from an increase in office internet traffic during this year’s 2012 London Olympic Games (here), has today revealed how its own broadband network will cope with the event. A major £2.4M upgrade has also been announced.

The Cybermoor Networks project, a partially community built fibre optic broadband network for the residents and businesses of Alston Moor in rural Cumbria (England, UK), has signed a new infrastructure upgrade deal with Calix that will enhance the current service and could potentially bring ultrafast Gigabit broadband ISP speeds to the area.

Communications provider Vodafone (Europe) has reached a “fair and reasonable” agreement to buy global telecoms giant Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW) for a cash offer of £1.044 Billion (38p per CWW share), which is well above the estimated £700m that had been hinted at during February 2012 (here) when news of the talks first broke.

The UK’s Digital Champion and head of Race Online 2012, Martha Lane Fox, has today launched a “radical new cross-sector partnership” called Go On UK that aims to bring the benefits of the internet to “every individual, organisation and community” across the country. Sound familiar? It’s really just a replacement for RO2012 that formally ends today.
