The European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) has criticised ISPs in the UK and Europe for failing to implement measures that could have helped to tackle one of the biggest Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks ever seen, which hit anti-spam group Spamhaus in March 2013 and impacted global internet traffic.

Gigaclear and sibling ISP Rutland Telecom have completed the three month long build of a new 1000Mbps (Megabits per second) capable fibre optic broadband (FTTP) network in the rural market town of Uppingham (Leicestershire, England), with prices starting at £37 a month for a symmetric 10Mbps package (£100 installation).

The latest Point Topic and Broadband Forum statistics for Q4-2012 reveal that the total number of global broadband subscribers has grown to 643,770,042 (up from 635.9m in Q3-2012), which is being fuelled by deployments of fibre optic (FTTH, FTTC etc.) connectivity growing “faster than all other access technologies“.

Cable operator Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has today introduced a “more flexible and responsive” Traffic Management policy for customers on its 30Mbps and faster “unlimited” superfast broadband packages, which will cut the ISPs download speed throttling to just 30% for some and rising to at most 40% but for a shorter period.
