CityFibre to Boost UK Fibre Optic Broadband Capacity via Level 3 Deal

CityFibre, which builds ultra-fast 100Mbps+ fibre optic (FTTH) broadband networks for big towns and cities around the United Kingdom (e.g. York and Bournemouth), has today announced a new capacity deal with Level 3 Communications that could enable it to launch 1Gbps services “throughout the United Kingdom“.

The British Labour Party’s Shadow Culture Minister, Helen Goodman MP, yesterday used a debate in the House of Commons to call for all broadband ISPs to install internet censorship (filtering) systems by default because, she claimed, it was a “near-impossible task for many” people to download their own Parental Control solutions. Really?

Virgin Mobile UK Drops Unlimited Mobile Broadband Data from PAYG Tariff

The mobile division of Virgin Media has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that they will next month drop the “unlimited data” (Mobile Broadband) aspect of their Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) based Big Data and Texts top-ups, which launched at the end of last year (here), in favour of a capped usage allowance.

UK ISP PlusNet Cuts Contract Term on 12 Months Half Price Broadband

Internet access and phone provider PlusNet appears to have quietly tweaked its recently introduced 12 months half price broadband promotion (offer details) to adopt a 12 month contract term instead of the previous 18 month one.
