EE UK Hikes the Price of Home Phone Line Rental

Telecoms operator EE has quietly increased the standard price of their Phone Line Rental service, which is usually bundled alongside their Home Broadband packages, from £16.40 to £17.50 per month.

The International Telecommunication Union and attendants of this year’s World Radiocommunication Conference have agreed to turn the 700MHz radio spectrum band (694-790MHz) into a global standard for Mobile Broadband, which supports Ofcom’s position in the United Kingdom.

The first 12 homes have now been connected to a new “superfast” capable fixed wireless broadband network, which is fuelled by a grant of £152,000 and will soon cover around 250 premises in the Humbie, Fala and neighbouring areas in East Lothian and Midlothian (Scotland).

Poor Mobile Network Signals Discourage UK House Buyers

It’s not just slow broadband that can discourage people from buying a new home. A RootMetrics survey of 2,135 UK adults, which was conducted by YouGov during October 2015, suggests that having a good mobile signal (34%) is now more important than the quality of local schools (23%).

Superfast North Yorkshire Broadband Project Boosts Economy by £220m

A new report predicts that the Superfast North Yorkshire project, which is working with BT to make FTTC/P based superfast broadband (25Mbps+) services available to around 90% of local premises by late 2016 and possibly 95% within a few years (details), could boost the local economy by £220m.

UPD Virgin Media’s 200Mbps Package Drops to 130Mbps at Peak Times

Cable operator Virgin Media has confirmed that customers of their recently launched Vivid 200Mbps broadband package (here) are seeing their average Internet download speeds at peak times drop to 130Mbps (October 2015 Data), which is below the previous top package tier of 152Mbps.

UPD2 Public Accounts Committee Seek Clarity on Welsh Broadband Plan

The National Assembly for Wales, specifically its Public Accounts Committee (PAC), has criticised the state aid fuelled Superfast Cymru project with BT for failing to provide full and clear information about the Welsh roll-out plan for “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services.

BT Sale on Unlimited Broadband and BTSport Ahead of Black Friday

BT has today prepared for Black Friday by cutting the price of both their unlimited ‘up to’ 17Mbps broadband and 38Mbps BTInfinity packages, while also throwing in a prepaid MasterCard (worth £50 to £100), a £50 Love2shop voucher and reducing the BTSport Pack contract to just 30 days.
