uSwitch Reveals the Best UK Mobile Operators in 2016 Awards

Thursday, February 11th, 2016 (1:24 pm) - Score 2,226

The annual uSwitch Mobile Awards 2016, which took place this week at The Barbican venue in London, have crowned giffgaff as the “Best Network of the Year” after it won several categories. A number of other operators also picked up awards, although it wasn’t such a good night for the big boys.

The majority of the awards were based off the results from a Customer Satisfaction survey, which was carried out online by Censuswide with 5,009 mobile users in December 2015. Elsewhere several non-network related mobile awards were also handed down by a judging panel of journalists.

However one exception was the award for Fastest Mobile Network, which was based on data provided by RootMetrics network speed tests; but it should be said that not all of the mobile operators agree with their approach to testing.

Network of the Year giffgaff Tesco Mobile Three UK

Elsewhere the Judges awarded Samsung as Manufacturer of the Year and unsurprisingly they also won Phone of the Year for their Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Finally, the gong for Best Technology Innovation went to Motorola for its shatterproof screen.

How can giffgaff and Tesco Mobile have a “best network” award when, as I understand it, they don’t run a network but piggy back on O2? Or do they have a dedicated slice of O2s spectrum, or priority on the network over O2’s direct customers?

Mind you otherwise that’d make O2 the “best” of the survey in all network categories except speed.

Also, their 4G speeds are dire and they have thousands of unhappy customers talking about it.

So if they are the best the worst must suck BIG time

Sorry I had to re read this, How the firggin hell did giffgaff get better than Three for Data!? It’s 0.2 on giffgaff and 80 on three!

Some odd picks, but I guess on the plus side they’re not as stupid a set of results as the MSE survey from last year!

As much as I like GiffGaff, all these awards are bollocks. GG gets the hind tit from O2, and O2 itself wont fix the numerous issues with its network – meaning I get data speeds so slow, you cant open a BLANK page much of the time (Malvern specific), and barely reach 0.1Mbps everywhere else – 3G, because 4G isnt an option on O2 around here.

Over the Border in Wales I get the same. I have once, in the centre of Swansea managed to get 10mbps down and 4mbps up on 4G. Most of the time it’s never over 1mbps both ways.

Life mobile which runs on EE’s 3G is only 3G but it gives me 20-30 all the time when I’ve tried it O2.s 3G is more pants than it’s 4G

As you say it’s bollocks. I hit over 75mbps everyday on 3. Three or EE should have been at the top. I wonder if this is pay someone to repair your reputation at work.

Either that or non of these panel have never tried the gaffguff service!

    Bravo to GiffGaff

I have a phone on there and the service is exceptional, well it is in my experience. Their packages are cheap and easy to use and it’s a no nonsense no fuss network.
