New customers considering Sky Broadband’s Unlimited Fibre (FTTC) packages can once again order the service for a reduced monthly price of just £25 for ‘up to’ 38Mbps and £30 for ‘up to’ 76Mbps with phone line rental. A £75 Prepaid MasterCard has also been included as a gift.

A new Mystery Shopper study conducted by consumer magazine Which? has revealed that major broadband ISPs are only giving the required information about connection speeds under Ofcom’s Code of Practice (CoP) less than half (47%) of the time, with some (e.g. TalkTalk) doing worse than others.

Sky UK’s sibling NOW TV video streaming and ISP platform has cut the price of their unlimited 17Mbps “Brilliant Broadband” (ADSL) and 38Mbps “Fat Fibre” (FTTC / VDSL2) packages for the first 12 months of service, which takes their monthly prices to just £15 and £20 respectively.

A meeting of the UK Wireless Internet Service Providers Association has named the four suppliers that are bidding on Scotland’s R100 project, which aspires to make “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) available to 100% of the country by the end of 2021 (March 2022 as a financial year).

Rural fibre optic ISP Gigaclear has handed the civil engineering contract for deploying their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to 10,000 premises in West Oxfordshire (England) to Lite Access (international contractor). The rollout is due to complete by the end of 2019.

Cable ISP Virgin Media has today made their new 350Mbps (20Mbps upload) home broadband tier available to order, which replaces the old 300Mbps package. Existing customers already taking VIVID 300 will be automatically transferred onto VIVID 350 “at no extra cost“.

The joint £35m project between cable ISP WightFibre and Infracapital, which aims to deploy a new Gigabit capable ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to cover 53000 of the 61000 homes on the Isle of Wight (Hampshire, UK) by the end of 2022, has begun.

Fibre optic builder Cityfibre and ISP Vodafone have today announced that the next UK city to benefit from their joint deployment of a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) broadband service will be Peterborough (Cambridgeshire), which is supported by an investment of “at least” £30m.

Cable TV and ultrafast broadband ISP Virgin Media UK (Liberty Global) seems to be in hot water again after the Carlisle Magistrates’ Court in Cumbria highlighted 14 alleged safety breaches (locations), which relate to the Project Lightning network expansion in residential areas.

The European Commission has begun inviting municipalities from all over Europe (including the UK) to register their details for the chance to secure vouchers worth £13k under the €120m (£104m) WiFi4EU initiative, which aims to equip “every European village and city with free WiFi internet access” by 2020.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority in England has today proposed to invest a further £5.5 million into helping expand the availability of 300Mbps capable FTTP “full fibre” broadband, as well as improving Mobile (4G and 5G) and public WiFi coverage over the next 4 years.

The annual Broadband Genie 2018 survey has today handed several awards to Plusnet, Vodafone and Virgin Media for taking the top spots in various different ISP performance categories. Overall budget ISP Plus.net scooped the most wins, as well as the headline ‘Best Broadband Provider‘ award.

National telecoms giant and ISP BT has announced that they are aiming to create a further 1,300+ apprenticeship and graduate jobs, which will cover various different roles including TV production, engineering, customer service and in cyber-security (EE and Plusnet will hold some of the roles).

The Advertising Standards Authority has banned a national UK press advert for Sky Broadband after rival ISP BT complained that the promotion’s claim of offering “Unlimited Broadband At Our Best Prices” was “misleading,” not least because they’d recently offered the same package for less.

A sizeable backlog of repairs has reportedly caused the Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) in England to restrict the expansion of Virgin Media UK’s ultrafast cable broadband ISP and TV network in the area (£3bn Project Lighting), at least until they can get the situation under control.

A new crowd-sourced study of 3G and 4G based Mobile Broadband performance from Tutela has revealed how Three UK, O2, Vodafone and EE (BT) perform across England, Wales and Scotland, as well as generally for the whole of the United Kingdom. As usual EE retains the overall top spot.

Full fibre broadband ISP Community Fibre has today followed yesterday’s announcement (here) by signing a new agreement with the City of London Corporation, which will see their 1Gbps UK FTTH broadband network being extended to cover 2,800 residential properties in the area.
