Plusnet, Vodafone and Virgin Media Win 2018 Broadband ISP Survey

The annual Broadband Genie 2018 survey has today handed several awards to Plusnet, Vodafone and Virgin Media for taking the top spots in various different ISP performance categories. Overall budget ISP Plus.net scooped the most wins, as well as the headline ‘Best Broadband Provider‘ award.

As usual the Broadband Genie survey is largely based upon online feedback collected from 4,490 consumers in the UK (OnePoll), as well as data from just 9,000 speedtest results using the testing tool provided on their website (conducted throughout 2017). The survey then asked respondents to rate their ISPs based on performance across a range of categories, such as customer support, technical support, value for money, reliability and service speeds etc.

The caveat with having such a small sample size is that this survey can only cover the biggest broadband providers, which typically ignores the smaller ISPs that so often deliver superior service quality and support. Another caveat stems from using speedtests to rank ISPs, which can be a problem if one provider has more customers on a slower package than others. In other words, the results should be taken with a pinch of salt.
