Mobile operator Vodafone, which previously offered 350,000 free mobile broadband SIMs (30GB allowance – valid for 90 days) to disadvantaged school children across the UK (here), has today launched a new range of discounted plans to help private and public sector organisations to get their most vulnerable customers online.
The communities.connected plans are said to have been “designed to support schools, further education colleges, universities, local authorities and charities.” The plans mean they can provide connectivity to the individuals and families who are struggling to access the internet at home, missing out on education, employment prospects and access to healthcare.
However, unlike the original schools programme, the new plans aren’t free and instead come at a “significantly reduced price” and with bigger usage allowances, starting from £15 a month for a SIM-only, unlimited data contract. Customers can also buy a 6 and 12-month package, with unlimited data and a free dongle or MiFi device (mobile broadband router), for £100 and £180 respectively. The plans are available until the end of June 2021.
