Mobile benchmarking firm RootMetrics has today published a general comparison of 5G based mobile (mobile broadband) speeds and availability across 13 of the United Kingdom’s key cities, which sees Glasgow take the top spot on an aggregated average (median) download speed of 144.3Mbps and availability of 28.3%.
The CEO of UK broadband ISP, mobile and TV giant Virgin Media (VMO2), Lutz Schueler, has confirmed that the operator “will be launching soon our first IPTV offer” (Internet Protocol Television), which is probably a reference to the new streaming entertainment service (here) that they began to trial earlier this year.

CityFibre, which currently aims to cover 8 million UK premises with their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network by around the end of 2025, has today secured another major investment boost of £1.125bn from the owner of Ikea (Interogo Holdings) and Mubadala (Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund).
