Telecoms Providers JT and Sure Broke Competition Rules on Guernsey

The Guernsey Competition and Regulatory Authority (GCRA) has ruled that two of the English Channel island’s broadband, phone and mobile providers, JT and Sure, broke competition law by “attempting to illegally control” the provision of mobile networks in Guernsey, including the future introduction of 5G services.

BT Advert Banned for Misleading UK Broadband Speed Guarantee

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a website advert for BT’s broadband ISP packages – seen during December 2020 – after they “misleadingly” presented their “Stay Fast Guarantee” on packages as a guaranteed minimum speed for the package, when that was not actually the case.

Toob Gets GBP87.5m Funding to Boost UK FTTP Broadband Rollout

New ISP toob, which is busy building a Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across parts of England, has today secured “up to” £87.5m of new funding from the Sequoia Economic Infrastructure Income Fund and accelerated their target to reach 1 million UK premises by 2027 (previously it was 2031).

EE and Three UK Deal to Put 4G and 5G on London Underground UPDATE

Mobile operators EE (BT) and Three UK have today become the first two network providers to reach a special deal, which will enable them to deploy 4G and 5G based mobile (mobile broadband) services across the entire London Underground by late 2024 (ticket halls, platforms and tunnels). Openreach Sees 100,000 Customers on FTTP in Northern Ireland

Openreach (BT) has today announced that they’ve connected 100,000 customers, via various different partner ISPs, to their new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Northern Ireland. All of this will complement the £130m (capex) currently being invested between 2021 and 2022 to expand their coverage across NI.

Ofcom Bans UK Mobile Operators from Locking Phones

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today begun to enforce a number of new consumer protection measures on mobile operators, which in practice means that they can no longer supply locked phones and are now limited to a maximum contract term of 24-months on bundles (mobile plans and handsets).

Cable Theft Knocks Out Broadband for 1,000 Premises Around Ely UPDATE

Around 1,000 premises in the Witchford and Ely area of Cambridgeshire (England) have been left without a fully working broadband ISP and phone connection after criminals ripped up and stole some of Openreach’s underground copper cables. Local residents have been told that the damage could take up to 14 days to fix.
