1p Mobile UK Refreshes 30-Day SIM Only 4G and 5G Mobile Plans UPDATE

Mobile network operator 1p Mobile appears to have recently refreshed their range of SIM Only mobile plans, which now start at £6 per month for a 2GB data (mobile broadband) allowance and rise up to just £25 per month for “unlimited data” alongside all of the usual extras (unlimited UK calls, texts and inclusive EU roaming etc.).

The mobile plans only attract a basic 30-day contract term, as well as support for 4G, 5G, Tethering, fully itemised bills, Wi-Fi and VoLTE Calling etc. But take note that the inclusive EU roaming feature still attracts a Fair Usage Policy data cap of 14GB (GigaBytes).

NOTE: 1p Mobile is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) on EE’s UK platform.

In addition, new customers who take their £25 per month unlimited data and calls plan can add additional SIMs for extra family members from just £12.50 each, which is something that EE pioneered a few years back and can be quite useful. Credits to one of our readers (Gareth) for spotting the change.

UPDATE 5:27pm

The T&C’s make clear that the “unlimited data” plan is “subject to a personal usage cap of 500GB,” but like other mobile operators, this is somewhat of a soft cap. Not that you’d know it from the language: “The policy specifies that using a significantly large amount of data, such as around 500GB within a specific period, would be considered excessive. It’s common for service providers to set such limits to prevent a small number of users from monopolising network resources. Reduced Speed: If a customer exceeds the defined data usage limit, the service provider may reduce their internet speed to a slower rate, such as 128Kbps. This reduced speed is typically referred to as throttling.”

The catch being that 1p Mobile would have to stop advertising the plan as “unlimited data” if they ever did actually impose any serious speed or service restrictions, since that would probably contravene the ASA’s advertising guidelines for the use of such terminology.

… have they also removed SIM expiry from their terms?!

Good news for home mobile broadband with unlimited data (I getting good speed from 5G EE over 400Meg down and over 70Meg upload) that fastest than my Gfast 240/36 (soon to be ceasedwhen contract is finished) will save lots more money on 1p mobile unlimited data £25 a month. A win-win.

I spoken too soon. In fact 1p mobile have FUP of 500GB limit. Shouldn’t have advert it Unlimited! ASA will be on the way knocking on 1p mobile to take it down!

@Mark Jackson T&C’s stated Unlimited data *Data consumption is subject to a personal usage cap of 500GB*. I did asked 1p mobile about this and yes it does indeed unlimited data is subject to 500GB per month for personal use. So, it not UNLIMITED! 🙁

Ouch — the terms are indeed pretty painful:

      > Unreasonably Large Data Usage: The policy specifies that using a significantly large amount of data, such as around 500GB within a specific period, would be considered excessive. It’s common for service providers to set such limits to prevent a small number of users from monopolising network resources. Reduced Speed: If a customer exceeds the defined data usage limit, the service provider may reduce their internet speed to a slower rate, such as 128Kbps . This reduced speed is typically referred to as throttling.

I’m surprised that they can advertise a service as “unlimited” if there is in fact a limit.

Most operators have a ceiling for “unlimited” under fair usage terms. It’s usually buried deep in contract terms. I agree though, should not be marketed as UNLIMITED.

People doing over 500GB is in most cases unlikely if they are using it for purpose intended which is a phone – data for routers and computers is deemed to be a DATA SIM.

    3. Avatar photo Sam Perry says:

Yes but in all seriousness if you do all 500gb on your phone that’s just not normal and you have an addiction

    4. Avatar photo Ben says:

      > Most operators have a ceiling for “unlimited” under fair usage terms

In that case the product shouldn’t be described as “unlimited”, but rather based on the limit. Section 69 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 might be relevant.

When you say ‘parent’ being EE Mark, I think that’s misleading.

As far as I can see, they’re a virtual operator using EEs network, but not owned by EE – looks to me more like they’re connected to Utility Warehouse (Eg Telecom Plus) than anything in ownership/connections.

‘Parent’ would usually mean the corporate structure – or is there a link in that sense to EE and thus BT rather than using the network which isn’t really ‘parent’ in any sense.

    1. Avatar photo Phil says:

Was told 1p mobile run by BTWholsale (BT) if sim inserted into 5G hub it will tell you it belong to BTwholesale but if sim inserted into mobile phone it will say EE.

    2. Avatar photo anonymous says:

It says “1p” as the operator name. They use BT’s EE network with full frequency bands, but not owned by them. Does VoLTE, VoWIFI and uncapped speeds (i.e. not rate limited to 2mbps, 10mbps or 100mbps)

  5. Avatar photo Fred says:

Odd that they still have the 8GB for £7.50 if you change the URL end to SB8 that has been there for ages, high Google search hit, but not on the official website!

  6. Avatar photo L1 says:

Glad to see this update from 1p mobile, will likely be getting one soon when moving out of town.

  7. Avatar photo Antec123 says:

Any info on if the unlimited sim can be used in a 5G Router? (even thought its 500Gb FUP, which is fine in my use case)

Also, it seems the £15 boosts have changed, they are now 100Gb instead of 50Gb, at renewal date will mh boost renew at new data allowance or stay at 50Gb?

    1. Avatar photo Phil says:

I was told by 1p mobile you can use it for router broadband that’s fine as long you don’t go over 500GB data in a single day or in a single month. One sim for mobile and one sim for router in a family sims additional sim deal (mobile get 500GB and router get 500GB both sim cost £37.50 a month)

    2. Avatar photo Matthew Richardson says:

A while back, maybe 2 months ago, I fitted my spare 1pmobile (not on this boost package) in my 5103E 5G router and was getting good and comparable service to my Smarty unlimited sim. 200mbps +

  8. Avatar photo Sam Perry says:

It makes no sense that 1P can do 5G on payg but EE won’t and in fact cap you on 4G 25 Meg…

    1. Avatar photo Me says:

It does when EE makes many times more profits by restricting packages so much. You need to be in the right place at the right time to grab a bargain in EE that matches its MVNO’s.

  9. Avatar photo Ben says:

Given the 500GB limit it looks suspiciously like the “unlimited” plan is just a rebadged version of the 500GB plan… https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2024/05/1p-mobile-uk-offers-500gb-data-sim-for-gbp25-per-month.html

    1. Avatar photo anonymous says:

It is, but that package never surfaced from their main tariff page at that time, it was a hidden URL that worked if known. There were a couple of “hidden” tariffs.

  10. Avatar photo Chris says:

Since being with these the call signal is so poor and the call keeps dropping out. Live in a 5g area and it’s not good.

  11. Avatar photo Phil says:

1p Mobile Unlimited 5G on the 5G Hub router is about the same as Openreach G.fast 330/50 (my local EE 5G mast is only 350m away) so it good to have Unimited (500GB per month) will be more than enough for two of us in the household. £25 is cheaper than expensive Openreach G.fast 330/50 cost £70 per month from UnchainedISP.
