Mobile network analyst firm Streetwave has revealed that only EE (BT) and Vodafone UK were able to provide “Good Coverage” across more than 50% of Ceredigion’s road network in Wales. The data reflects the next batch of results from their work with Growing Mid Wales (GMW), which uses bin lorries to map local network (4G, 5G etc.) coverage and broadband speeds.

Customers of Sky’s (Sky Broadband) older Standard Definition (SD) TV service and devices (i.e. Digibox and Sky+ set-top-boxes) have been given a final warning to upgrade their service before October 2024 or face automatic cancellation. The warning appears to represent a slight delay on the original August 2024 deadline.

Alternative network operator and UK ISP RunFibre, which had been building a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across rural parts of South Gloucestershire and North Wiltshire in England, has now been fully acquired by the Fibreray Group for an undisclosed sum. The operator is now looking toward an expansion of their gigabit broadband network.

Crowdfunded mobile network operator Honest Mobile, which harnesses Three UK’s network via a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement, has today announced the launch of a new ‘Family Plan’ that is “designed to make managing multiple SIMs easier, saving 20% compared to standard individual plans“.

Network benchmarking firm Opensignal has published new analysis of the “competitive headwinds” facing Three UK in the mobile market, which finds that the operator’s struggles are “driven by a low subscriber base and high churn resulting from many factors“. But it also warns that the situation could get worse if the proposed merger with Vodafone is rejected.

Alternative network operator Netomnia (YouFibre), which as part of the Brsk merger (here) have extended their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP infrastructure to cover c.1.6 million UK premises passed (RFS), has today joined the Fibre Cafe‘s (Strategic Imperatives) connectivity aggregation platform.

In a big development, Sky UK (Comcast) has this morning announced that they’ve finally reached a “long-term partnership” (wholesale) agreement with alternative network operator CityFibre, which will enable ISP Sky Broadband to finally launch a new range of multi-gigabit speed capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband packages “from next year“.

Rochdale-base broadband ISP Zen Internet today claims to have beaten BT (EE) to become the “first major provider” to launch a WiFi 7 (802.11be) capable router for customers on their full fibre (FTTP) packages, which reflects the outcome of their partnership with Amazon. The provider also confirmed that their first “up to” 2Gbps plans will launch this autumn.

But STL plans to appeal the verdict.

A new survey of over 1,000 adults conducted by industry trade body Mobile UK, which represents mobile operators Three UK, EE (BT), O2 (Virgin Media) and Vodafone, has claimed that 51% of respondents are not bothered or would welcome a new mobile mast on their street to help improve service performance and reliability.
