The annual 2013 Next Generation Digital Challenge Awards, which will run alongside the NextGen Conference in London (14-15th October), has unveiled a shortlist of potential winners for its Best Fixed Rural Network and Best Fixed Urban Network category. Broadband ISPs CityFibre, Cotswolds Broadband, Hyperoptic and others are all in with a chance.

Cable operator Virgin Media (Liberty Global) have today reported their latest Q2-2013 financial results, which revealed that its total broadband ISP subscriber base had shrunk by -15,500 in the last quarter (down from +25.5k in Q1-2013 and +51.6k in Q4-2012) to total 4,475,000.

The latest anecdotal monthly study of fixed line consumer broadband ISP speeds in the United Kingdom has revealed that the average internet download speed during July 2013 was 18.662Mbps, which is up from 18.365Mbps in June. By contrast the average upload speed hit 3.338Mbps (up from 2.882Mbps in June).
