AOL UK's Film Download Service

Posted: 11th Feb, 2006 By: MarkJ
Not one to shy away from content products, AOL UK has announced its own 'Film Download' service. Customers can expect to pay anything from £2.99 upwards to download a movie, although it can only be played for up to a week after download:

Titles available at launch include Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Free Willy, Batman and Poltergeist, through to more specialist and niche titles, with new titles to be added to the service regularly.

People need Windows Media Player 10 or Windows XP Service Pack 2 to watch the films, which can be kept for up to seven days after download. The seven day rental window starts from the minute the film download is complete.

It's a nice idea, however you could probably buy a lot of the older movies for a pound or two extra (DVD) in the shops and keep it for as long as you like.

By chance I noted Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was just £4 in MVC last week. We can’t imagine people doing this with music downloads, so why movies? More @ Web-User.
