Vodafone has become the first UK mobile phone operator to launch a 'Super-3G' (HSDPA) data card (PCMCIA) for laptop users. Unlike current 3G (UMTS), which runs at up to 384Kbps, Super-3G is more like broadband and can push out up to 1.4Mbps.
Unfortunately coverage of this new technology is presently limited to areas inside the M25, Glasgow, Sheffield, Greater Manchester and Tyneside. The operator is aiming for complete coverage by September 2007.
Typically price remains the biggest barrier at £25 per month including a 250MB data cap, although you can lash out £99 for an unlimited usage plan. This may seem expensive, yet it's still an improvement over previous packages and speeds.
