Alcatel has been awarded a multi-million Euro contract by Be, the new UK broadband ISP that's preparing to launch a full 24Mbps broadband ADSL2+ triple play service:
Established in October 2004 under the working name Avatar Broadband, Be is leveraging Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) to initiate its highly competitive services. LLU gives access to the incumbent operators copper infrastructure but with the freedom for Be to build its own network. Alcatels solution, based on the most advanced IP, access and management technologies, will enable Be to offer 24 Mbit/s speeds and will provide extremely cost-efficient backhauling and aggregation for the massive amounts of broadband traffic.
The Alcatel solution gives us a real advantage over our competitors, said Be co-founder Boris Ivanovic, who launched a similar service in Sweden after acquiring ISP Bostream. By working with Alcatel and exploiting its triple play expertise we can deliver the fastest speeds available, with a greater number of features and customer services unmatched by any competitors in the market.
Be is the first operator in the UK to deploy the Alcatel 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager which supports ADSL2plus technology that triples the downstream bandwidth compared to conventional ADSL. Be will also deploy the Alcatel 7450 Ethernet Service Switch, the Alcatel 7750 Service Router, and the Alcatel 5620 Service Aware Manager which combine to provide scalable and reliable Ethernet aggregation and IP service routing while ensuring the smooth introduction and operation of its services.
Alcatel is working with major partners to help customers all over the world to bring converged IPTV, high-speed Internet and voice services to the mass market, said Michel Rahier, in charge of Alcatels fixed communications activities. The Alcatel portfolio will provide Be with the end to end solution required to support its aggressive plans for user-centric triple play in the UK.
