We've managed to get in contact with
Gio Internet and have obtained some further details, although an official press release is expected tomorrow. Most importantly, Gio states that it is not insolvent.
However, the provider confirmed that a "
substantial debt" does indeed exist between itself and NetServices, yet this is reportedly part of an on-going legal dispute with Gio alleging that NS has overcharged it.
The problem itself is believed to affect roughly 3,000 of Gio's customers, yet there is very little that the provider can do to stop it because NS controls the DSL network.
Gio claims that it had no prior warning about NS's intended action and has cancelled all affected customer accounts on its billing system, thus preventing further payments being taken. The provider states that:
"
Affected users should email their username to ispreview@giointernet.com , we'll process any refund due and provide confirmation that the account has been closed at our end."
Apparently Gio has had trouble getting MAC codes from NS since the beginning, although signs point to this being more possible after NS become willing to allow migration.
Sadly the legal situation has prevented Gio itself going on the record with anything more official, at least until tomorrow. We wouldnt be surprised if that PR gets delayed as well, given the complexity of the situation.
