UK ISP
NDO has celebrated its 9th birthday by announcing the connection of a brand new 155mb ADSL broadband pipe, which has effectively doubled the providers overall capacity:
Sam Hill, Development Director at NDO looks back over the past 9 years: "As NDO enters its tenth year, a lot has changed in the Internet world since NDO started (as NetDirect) back in 1995. Normal home user connection speeds have changed from just 14.4kbps and 28.8kbps, multiplying 20-fold to the fast 512k and 1mb ADSL services that are common place today. Internet access has gone from being a luxury available for the few to available to the many with now almost 70% of UK households having some form of Internet connection; nearly 20% of those being a Broadband service.
"The Internet market has changed too from a few number of innovating small companies at the start to a mixture of massive global ISP's; dedicated medium-sized ISP's and literally hundreds of VISP's all offering a variety of services. It will be interesting to see where the Internet goes over the next 9 years; I expect homes will become fully connected up and you will be able to order your food shopping from your fridge; your microwave will cook your food automatically; your TV will download the latest movies for you to watch; networks will become self repairing and probably everything from the smallest item will be connected up to some form of network.
"What ever does happen I am sure it will be interesting and as technology changes it can only serve to enhance and enrich peoples lives."
