UPDATE: NTL has confirmed that 6,000 jobs will be lost. Job losses at NTL have been anticipated ever since the
Telewest merger was announced, with reports now suggesting that the UK's largest cable operator may be seeking a 4,000 to 6,000 strong cull!:
Reports claim that a third of the firm's estimated 17,000 workforce is to be stripped out, with call centres likely to be closed down and jobs outsourced overseas. The number of engineers is also likely to be cut.
NTL is in the process of merging with Telewest to create a single giant cableco in the UK. It also has the task of bringing newly-acquired Virgin Mobile on board later this year.Just what we need, more outsourced call centres, probably to some far flung place where you cant understand the accent and they still ask you how Wimbledon is going five months after its over (thats the point where I usually tell them Tim Henman won it *smile*).
