Scottish cable operator
SmallWorld has selected
Motorola's EuroDOCSIS 3.0 based Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) for deployment, announced lower prices and further expansion of its coverage.
The upgrade will enable the provider to offer tiered broadband services with throughput speeds of up to 200Mbps (megabits per second). The setup is similar to that being deployed by
Virgin Media for use in its forthcoming 50Mbps and faster products:
"Motorola's EuroDOCSIS 3.0-based solution provides a true next-generation broadband platform and allows us to substantially grow our service portfolio while protecting existing investments in currently deployed EuroDOCSIS solutions," said David Durnford, chief executive of Smallworld Media. "Motorola's strong foundation in video and data networking, coupled with the success of our existing six-year relationship, ensure that the investment we're making today will lead the way to highly competitive broadband services for our customers."
SmallWorld has also revealed that, from 1st August 2008, it will be able to deliver telephone and broadband services to homes throughout Irvine and Kilmarnock. It is hoped that similar expansion will be completed on their Carlisle and Morecambe networks later this year.
The operator goes on to confirm a raft of price reductions, including a new introductory price of £4.50 per month for "
unlimited" up to 20Mbps broadband. Further details on the other price adjustments, including changes to voice call rates, can be found
