The rural village of Crockham Hill (Edenbridge) in Kent, which remains without proper broadband coverage after
BT failed to upgrade the lines, could soon see its problems resolved thanks in part to the Yorkshire-based ISP
LN Communications.
This Is Kent reports that LN's feasibility study of the area showed that wireless (
Wi-Fi) broadband provision was possible, but only if at least 100 people can be persuaded to signup:
So far, local businesswoman Vivienne Cox explained, more than 50 people have signed up but at least 100 are needed to make the network financially viable. She said: "
It has been a long-standing battle with BT and it hasn't upgraded the lines. So I decided to do some research and stumbled across LN Communications, which has set up a lot of remote networks in the Highlands."
Dr Cox, who runs UK Bioscience Consultants, added: "
Our signal in Froghole is at best slow, and suffers long periods of down time. For those of us running businesses from home it is a real handicap."
It's understood that the service would cost £24.99 per month for each custom and include a £100 one-off connection fee. Those seeking more information are asked to contact Vivienne Cox at vivienne.cox@capriol.org or phone 01732 866372.
