The
Avanti Communications Group, a UK satellite operator, has signed a new contract worth £1.1m with the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) for supply of remote broadband services in Northern Ireland:
David Williams, Avanti Chief Executive, said: "We are delighted with this contract award which yet again shows that Avanti is a market leader in the provision of rural broadband services and are proud to be a part of making the United Kingdom the most internet-enabled country in the World.
Avanti's success in competitive tendering shows that it has very limited competition in rural satellite broadband. Through projects sponsored by the European Commission, governments all over Europe will follow the lead of the UK in the next few years and Avanti is perfectly positioned to win large amounts of this business."
The deal will also bring in annual revenue of £450,000 from customer subscriptions. Avanti will deploy services immediately using its rented capacity and migrate customers on to its new satellite, Hylas, upon launch.
