Virgin Media appears to be gearing up to rule out the use of Phorm's controversial advertising system, albeit not necessarily all behavioural ad targeting. Speaking at Virgin's investor meeting in New York yesterday VM's CEO, Neil Berkett, said: "
Our next initiative probably wont be with the Phorms of the world."
The move is a possible indication that Phorm could be about to lose yet another primary partner in the UK, somewhat following
Orange's recent example (
original news). However it is far from being a truly definitive statement and we will attempt to seek some clarification.
Phorm works with ISPs to monitor what websites you visit for use in targeted advertising campaigns, though its methods have raised many legal and privacy concerns. More @

UPDATE - New Statement from Virgin Media @ 13:15pm:A Virgin Media spokesperson told ISPreview: "Whilst we are still investigating the use of Phorm's technology under our existing agreement with the company, due to the complexities of the proposition we do not have any timescales on when, or if, we will progress to trial or full launch."
