Clara.net has announced its support and aid for the '
Cycling4Access' charity event, which aims to bring better telecommunications to needy countries:
'Cycling4Access' was created by two of the directors of Catalyst Limited, a telecommunications consultancy business. They decided to cycle 1000 kilometres of the
elusive 'Broadband Superhighway' of Great Britain to raise money for the charity ITDG, (The Intermediate Technology Development Group).
Claranet deemed 'Cycling4Access' to be a very worthy cause, being as it is raising money and telecommunications accessories that will help build a new telecoms network extending to Africa, Latin America and Asia. This network will enable poor communities in the developing world to access critical information and educational resources.
The link between these communities and ITDG's network of resources and expertise will provide online communication back to a hub where they can readily obtain critical skills and knowledge - information that will enable the communities to grow and survive.
'Cycling4Access' will raise money in a number of different ways, including corporate financial contributions, pledges of pc hardware, broadband hardware, software and bandwidth and private sponsorship
Claranet are to be one of a number of 'pit stops' for the two cyclists, as they make their way along the 1000 Kilometre route. We will be following the progress of the event and providing more news in next month's newsletter.
